1. Who We Are
Build Supply Network operates the buildsupplynetwork.com platform (the "Platform"). References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to Build Supply Network. We act as the data controller in respect of personal information collected from Platform users.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information: (a) Account information — name, email address, job title, and password hash provided at registration; (b) Business profile information — company name, location, description, certifications, material listings, project briefs, and other profile information you enter; (c) Usage information — pages visited, features used, search queries, enquiry activity, and message metadata (not message content); (d) Technical information — IP address, browser type, device identifiers, and cookies; (e) Communications — support requests and any direct correspondence with our team; (f) Transaction information — enquiry and order values, commission records, and payment information processed through our billing provider.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: operate and improve the Platform and its matching engine; facilitate connections and communications between Suppliers and Architects or Designers; calculate and invoice commissions; verify business certifications and approve accounts; send transactional notifications (enquiry updates, messages, order confirmations); detect and prevent fraud and anti-bypass violations; comply with legal obligations; and provide customer support. We do not sell your personal information.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We handle your information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We process your information on the following bases: (a) Performance of our service — information required to provide the Platform services you have signed up for; (b) Legitimate business interests — analytics, fraud prevention, product improvement, and communications to existing users, where these do not override your rights; (c) Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information by applicable law; (d) Consent — for optional communications such as newsletters, which you may withdraw at any time.
5. Sharing Your Information
We share information with: (a) Counterparties on the Platform — when a Supplier and an Architect or Designer connect through an enquiry, limited profile information is shared between them as part of the matching process. Direct contact details are only shared after a confirmed order through the Platform; (b) Service providers — cloud hosting, payment processing, email delivery, and analytics providers who process information on our behalf under contractual obligations; (c) Legal authorities — where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights of Build Supply Network or third parties. We do not share information with advertisers or data brokers.
6. International Transfers
Build Supply Network operates primarily in Australia. Some of our cloud infrastructure providers may process information in servers located outside Australia. Where we transfer information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the overseas recipient handles that information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
7. Information Retention
We retain account and transaction information for as long as your account is active and for 7 years after closure, to meet legal and financial record-keeping obligations under Australian law. Usage and analytics information is retained for up to 36 months. You may request earlier deletion subject to our legal retention obligations (see Section 9).
8. Cookies
We use essential cookies required for the Platform to function (authentication sessions, security tokens) and analytics cookies to understand usage patterns. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control non-essential cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may prevent login and core features from working.
9. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information (subject to retention obligations); object to or restrict certain processing; and withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@buildsupplynetwork.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
10. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), hashed password storage (bcrypt), access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. In the event of an eligible data breach under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, we will notify affected individuals and the OAIC as required by law.
11. Children
The Platform is intended for business use by persons aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material changes will be notified by email and by a Platform notice at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the most recent version was published.
